RE: 12tH NEWSLETTER

WORRY

Is there a magic cutoff period when offspring become accountable for their own actions? Is there a wonderful moment when parents can become detached spectators in the lives of their children and shrug, "It's their life," and feel nothing?

When I was in my twenties, I stood in a hospital corridor waiting for doctors to put a few stitches in my son's head. I asked, "When do you stop worrying?" The nurse said, "When they get out of the accident stage." My mother just smiled faintly and said nothing.

When I was in my thirties, I sat on a little chair in a classroom and heard how one of my children talked incessantly, disrupted the class, and was headed for a career making license plates. As if to read my mind, a teacher said, "Don't worry, they all go through this stage and then you can sit back, relax and enjoy them." My mother just smiled faintly and said nothing.

When I was in my forties, I spent a lifetime waiting for the phone to ring, the cars to come home, the front door to open. A friend said, "They're trying to find themselves. Don't worry, in a few years, you can stop worrying. They'll be adults." My mother just smiled faintly and said nothing.

By the time I was 50, I was sick & tired of being vulnerable. I was still worrying over my children, but there was a new wrinkle. There was nothing I could do about it. My mother just smiled faintly and said nothing. I continued to anguish over their failures, be tormented by their frustrations and absorbed in their disappointments.

My friends said that when my kids got married I could stop worrying and lead my own life. I wanted to believe that, but I was haunted by my mother's warm smile and her occasional, "You look pale. Are you all right?

Call me the minute you get home. Are you depressed about something?"

Can it be that parents are sentenced to a lifetime of worry? Is concern for one another handed down like a torch to blaze the trail of human frailties and the fears of the unknown? Is concern a curse or is it a virtue that elevates us to the highest form of life?

One of my children became quite irritable recently, saying to me, "Where were you? I've been calling for 3 days, and no one answered I was worried."

I smiled a warm smile.

The torch has been passed.

I wanted to update you on what’s going on in this game. I got our check back from Louisiana. I just love playing in their games, they are eager to give you your money. I hope that when we win Power Ball it’s on a Louisiana Ticket. It will easy and quick to collect our money.

Now Barbara is not leaving for New Orleans until very late in the month. She will be there for Mardi Gras, which is on Fat Tuesday February 5th, 2008. She leaves sometime after that, I’m not certain if she is coming back Ash Wednesday February 6th, 2008 or maybe Thursday February 7th, 2008 (Chinese New Year – The Year of the Rat.)

I will be asking her to buy our tickets in Louisiana Power Ball – Game Four before she leaves Louisiana. I think she is returning Friday February 8th, 2008. So that means most likely Game Four will NOT start until Saturday February 9th, 2008.

Now, I saw the Jack Pot rising and I was getting anxious about not have tickets for this game.

I had ask everyone to let me know if they wanted me to move this game over to Game Four, or to buy a mix of Power Ball and Cash Five tickets.

Well, my friend, Anonymous (Libra/Snake), in Atlanta, ask me if I got the check back sooner, why not mail the money to my step-mother in Missouri and get a Power Ball ticket from that state.

Now, I thought that was the best idea, and I was going to ask everyone if that was okay, but when I had ask everyone about transferring shares or keeping this game separate, I only had three people respond. Two wanted to keep is separate, and as I just told you my lady friend in Atlanta thought and I thought it was a good idea.

Now, I didn’t wait until I got the check back, I send the following letter to my step-mother:

RE: Power Ball tickets for Louisiana Power Ball – Game Three.

Dear Beth,

I’m enclosing our $10.00. If you would please purchase for me: 1 line in Power Ball for 10 draws.

In my Louisiana Power Ball Pool – Game Two, they won $13.00. I have already sent off the money to Louisiana to get my cash. But, I don’t have anyone going to Louisiana until the end of January.

And I thought, hey; why not just get this group a Power Ball ticket from Missouri? Power Ball ticket is a Power Ball ticket, right?

Besides it’s been awhile since Missouri has won Power Ball Jack Pot.

Thanks for helping me.

Michael

I think I mailed this the same day or the next day to my Step-Mother. When she purchased our tickets for Die-Hard, she bought the tickets and mailed them the same day.

I’m making an educated guess when I tell you, but I think we will have one line for 10 draws in Power Ball on Wednesday January 16th, 2008.

Now I don’t know when I will send the last three dollars, but I think I should spend it before Barbara leaves for New Orleans, so if we win, we can have more tickets.
