RE: 12th Update

This week's promise: God is a refuge for the oppressed

A reformer's refuge

"A mighty fortress is our God.
A bulwark never failing.
Our helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe—
His craft and pow'r are great,
And, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not His equal.

A Mighty Fortress is Our God
Martin Luther (1483-1546)

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear, even if earthquakes come and mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!

Psalm 46:1-3 NLT

"

The great reformer

"After posting his ninety-five theses on the door of Wittenberg's Castle Church in October 1517, Martin Luther faced many years of trials and persecution. And during the years of the ensuing Protestant Reformation, Luther came to know better than most the gracious power of God's sheltering hand. He confidently stepped forward to defend the truth he found in God's Word, despite excommunication from the Roman church, continual threats to his life and freedom, and times of intense spiritual battle.

In the comforting words of Psalm 46, Luther found the inspiration for this hymn that would become the battle cry of the Protestant Reformation. Many who suffered for their faith during that time found solid comfort in Luther's words of faith and praise. "A might fortress is our God!"

Here is Mac’s spreadsheet for this game: http://tinyurl.com/2e4llr

Donna Crosby, who plays with us in Mega Millions, asks if anyone won the Lottery.

I told her that I wasn’t sure, but I didn’t think so, because I have someone doing spreadsheets for the group and I’m certain that I would have gotten an e-mail from him if one of my groups had won.

I told her that I was NOT excited about Mega Millions because Fort Worth had just won it, so I couldn’t see another Texas Win, but it is a lottery and anything could happen.

She when on the Internet and copied down the numbers for me. 22 kept haunting me. I KNOW that either I have or one of my groups has 22 as their Bonus Ball.

Now you all are down to five more drawings, and I’m sad to tell you that since we didn’t win last night, I can’t pick up any cash and sent it with Barbara Sykes to New Orleans. She will be at work on Tuesday January 20th, 2008 and I will be giving her money for Game Four of Louisiana Lottery Pool.

I had hoped to win something so we could have more Louisiana Power Ball tickets for this game. However, if we won something Tuesday Night, I may give the money to Cordelia and she could get us Power Ball tickets in Kentucky.

Our next drawing will be on Tuesday January 29th, 2008. The Jack Pot (for Mega Millions) is worth $73 Million. The Cash Option is worth $45,100,000.00.

But it would NOT hurt my feelings one bit, if this group won Mega Millions. Look at the payout if we should win:

The Book Has the Answer

A man has been in business for many, many years and the business is going down the drain. He doesn't know what to do and is seriously contemplating suicide. He goes to the Rabbi to seek his advice. He tells the Rabbi about all of his problems in the business and asks the Rabbi what he should do. The Rabbi says, "Take a beach chair and a Bible and put them in your car and drive down to the edge of the ocean. Go to the water's edge. Take the beach chair out of the car, sit on it and take the Bible out and open it up. The wind will rifle the pages for a while and eventually the Bible will stay open at a particular page. Read the Bible and it will tell you what to do."

The man does as he is told. He places a beach chair and a Bible in his car and drives down to the beach. He sits on the chair at the water's edge and opens the Bible. The wind rifles the pages of the Bible and then stops at a particular page. He looks down at the Bible and sees what he has to do.

Three months later the man and his family come back to see the Rabbi. The man is wearing a $1,000 Italian suit. The wife is all decked out with a full-length mink coat and the child is dressed in beautiful silk. The man hands the Rabbi a thick envelope full of money and tells him that he wants to donate this money to the synagogue in order to thank the Rabbi for his wonderful advice. The Rabbi is delighted. He recognizes the man and asks him what advice in the Bible brought this good fortune to him. The man replies: "Chapter 11."
