Today's Thought

If I Can Help Somebody

It was a cold winter's day that Sunday. The parking lot to the church was filling up quickly. I noticed as I got out of my car that fellow church members were whispering among themselves as they walked to the church.

As I got closer, I saw a man leaned up against the wall outside the church. He was almost lying down as if he was asleep. He had on a long trench coat that was almost in shreds and a hat topped his head that was pulled down so you could not see his face. He wore shoes that looked 30 years old, too small for his feet with holes all over them and his toes stuck out.

I assumed this man was homeless and asleep, so I walked on by through the doors of the church. We all gathered for fellowship for a few minutes, and someone brought up the man lying outside. People snickered and gossiped, but no one bothered to ask him to come in, including me.

A few moments later church began. We all waited for the preacher to take his place and to give us the Word, when the doors to the church opened.

In came the homeless man walking down the aisle with his head down. People gasped and whispered and made faces. He made his way down the aisle and up onto the pulpit and he took off his hat and coat.

My heart sank.

There stood our preacher. He was the "homeless man."

No one said a word. The preacher took his Bible and laid it on the stand.

"Folks, I don't think I have to tell you what I am preaching about today."

Then he started singing the words to this song:

If I can help somebody as I pass along.

If I can cheer somebody with word or song.

If I can show somebody that he's traveling wrong,

Then my living shall not be in vain.

The numbers drawn in Friday drawing were: 21 26 34 44 54 Mega Ball 23. We match 1 number and the Mega Ball which of course pays out $3.00 each, that makes $6.00. This game has Megaplier on it, and the Megaplier was 2, so we now have another $12.00.

I got an e-mail from Mac, advising me that he would be out of town with his wife for a family reunion. So our spreadsheet will NOT be updated until he returns.

Now Mac handles the spreadsheet for all my games (expect J & M Lottery Pool) and I don’t know what order, if any order that he will update the spreadsheets.

Here is Mac’s Spreadsheet: http://tinyurl.com/2udwzv

Now the good news, and I do mean GOOD NEWS, is that no one won the Jack Pot last night. If you play in any of my Power Ball Pools, you understand why this is good news. Power Ball is only at $15 Million. It seems that week doesn’t go by that someone doesn’t win it. So for now, your game has almost the highest Jack Pot in the nation. (Florida Lotto has a Jack Pot of $25 Million tonight – And my Die Hard Members had a ticket in tonight’s drawings!)

You next drawing is on Tuesday October 16th, 2007. This will be the last drawing for your original tickets. I will be taking your wins, and extending this game until Friday November 2nd, 2007. That will be an additional 5 more drawings. Game 38 starts on Tuesday, November 6th, 2007.

On Tuesday, October 16th, 2007 the Mega Millions Jack Pot is worth $24 Million. The Cash Option is at $13,900,000.00.

There were 44 shares sold in this game. Here what you could win, broken down by share, before any attorney fees, taxes or tithes:

Share & Share alike

An elderly couple walks into a fast food restaurant. They order one hamburger, one order of fries and one drink.

The old man unwraps the plain hamburger and carefully cuts it in half. He places one half in front of his wife. He then carefully counts out the fries, dividing them into two piles and neatly placing one pile in front of his wife. He takes a sip of the drink; his wife takes a sip and then sets the cup down between them. As he begins to eat his few bites of hamburger, the people around them keep looking over and whispering "That poor old couple - all they can afford is one meal for the two of them."

As the man begins to eat his fries a young man comes to the table. He politely offers to buy another meal for the old couple. The old man replies that they’re just fine - they’re just used to sharing everything.

The surrounding people noticed the little old lady hadn’t eaten a bite. She sits there watching her husband eat and occasionally taking turns sipping the drink.

Again the young man comes over and begs them to let him buy another meal for them.

This time the old woman says "No, thank you, we are used to sharing everything."

As the old man finishes and was wipes his face neatly with the napkin, the young man again comes over to the little old lady who had yet to eat a single bite of food and asks "May I ask what is it you are waiting for?"

The old woman answers... "THE TEETH."
